“Public opinion is a permeating influence, and it exacts obedience to itself; it requires us to drink other men’s thoughts, to speak other men’s words, to follow other men’s habits.” — Walter Bagehot
Public opinion and Public figures are equivalent, specifically when the concerning influence is on today’s Youth. Child psychology states that teenage is the most sensitive, complex and most challenging age to be in. It’s the age, where any imprint positive or negative will have an eternal impact. And public figures, especially the celebrities are among one of the most influential segments for youth, and maybe secondary after family & school.
The life celebrities live is in itself, a life of dream for any teenage dreamer. Any child who dreams, who desires to reach the zenith of success will easily extract those imprints from his or her favourite celebrity. The luxurious, comfortable life, expensive designer clothes, accessories, swanky cars, attract young minds like a magnet towards the celebrities and their golden, picture-perfect life, but what today’s generation fails to understand is that — “ all that glitters is not gold”.
They are either unaware of the amount of hard work these celebrities put in, to reach where they are today, or they ignore the harsh realities behind this “overnight success” of the celebrities. They have no inclination of the fact that the so-called “ overnight success” has years of hard work, dedication, failures and rejections as its ingredients for many of the popular and renowned names today. The only way out from the mirage of celebrity life is the correct information and primarily the correct guidance, both from parents and teachers.
They need to get one thing engraved in their young, innocent mind, which is beautifully quoted by — Raven Symone.
“Don’t spend all of your time trying to be like someone else because you can never be them and they can never be you”
Every individual is beautiful in himself or herself with his/ her perfections and imperfections.
Do you believe the impact of celebrity lives on teenagers is entirely negative?
